Strikes & Political Upheaval Continue in France

Posted 02/20/2020

The political situation in France remains in upheaval with continued strikes causing port congestion, accrued demurrage charges and affecting overall transportation services. The latest news is that the ports and docks Union have called for a 4-hour strike today, Feb 20th, and additional strikes Feb 27th and March 5th. These strikes will impact both Le Havre and Fos sur mer ports. Tug boats are also striking at Fos sur mer today for the day's entirety.

Unfortunately, the vessel situation is not much better. Due the situation in China, the global logistics supply chain has been impacted with equipment shortages. Some shipping lines have already started to cancel vessels and calls on the Europe-Asia trade lane. It is expected that other shipping lines will follow in this trend.

We are working hard to mitigate the delays and additional charges accruing due to the strikes. For our customers and those shipping out of France, please plan out as far ahead as possible for your shipments and be aware that delays and additional charges are likely.

We will continue to keep you updated on this situation, and please contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
