BACKGROUND RETURN TO THE TOP OF THE PAGE

The Wine and Spirits Shippers Association (WSSA) is a non-profit membership organization that was established in 1976. Through the combined volume of the membership, WSSA negotiates exclusive confidential (service) contracts with the ocean carriers for reduced rates and guaranteed service on ocean transportation.  Contracts cover full container loads for import and export of beer, wine, spirits, beverages, mineral water, and other commodities in various trade lanes.

Existing contracts are for cargo originating in:

  • North Europe:   France, Germany, Austria, Benelux, Central European countries such as Hungary, UK, Ireland, Scandinavia.
  • Mediterranean:  Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Bulgaria, Slovenia, etc.
  • “New World” Countries:   Australia, New Zealand, Chile, Argentina,   Uruguay and South Africa.
  • USA:   exports to North Europe, Poland, UK, Ireland and Scandinavian   countries.

WSSA is a non-profit organization.  The Managing Director is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Association and reports to a

Board of Directors made up of senior executives in the US Wine and Spirits Industry.

Membership

Membership is open to Importers, Exporters, Distributors, Brokers, Wholesalers, Liquor Control Boards, Overseas Suppliers, Trading Companies and any other entity or their customers that pay(s) ocean freight for the import/export of any of the commodities listed.

 

Membership can be obtained through an easy application process and a simple (internal) approval process.  Click here for the membership application form.

 

Annual dues are US$100, which is recovered through the rate savings on your first container shipment.  There are no minimum shipment requirements.
