Q. Who can be a member?
A. Membership is open to Importers, Exporters, Distributors, Brokers, Wholesalers, Liquor Control Boards, Overseas Suppliers, Trading Companies and any other entity or their customers that pay(s) ocean freight for the import/export of wine and spirits.

Q. How much does membership cost?
A. Annual membership dues are USD $200 which is easily saved in your first shipment. Apply online! Don’t worry, we’ll invoice you.

Q. Will my information be kept confidential?
A. Yes. All data collected is kept confidential. We do not sell or distribute our membership list or other information to third parties.

Q. Is WSSA a broker?
A. No. We can recommend you to a broker in our trusted network of service providers.

Q. Is WSSA a freight forwarder?
A. No. We have a number of trusted partners that we will connect you with to provide you with that service.

Q. What countries have preferential rates?
A. We try to gain superior rates and services from all countries from which our members import. Today, we have contracts to ship from the following countries to the USA:

Mediterranean: Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece.
North Europe: France, Germany, Austria, UK, Ireland, Scandinavia. Poland, Hungary
"New World" Countries: Australia, New Zealand, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and South Africa. Please inquire directly for specific requests.

Q. Do you handle export shipments from the USA?
A. Yes. You can export to most countries we import from including but not limited to North Europe, Poland, UK, Ireland and Scandinavian countries. Please inquire directly for specific requests.

Q. Is a Customs House Broker required to import beverages?
A. Yes. You must obtain a bond. Brokers will advise you about all rules and regulations required by the USA and ensure you have all the necessary information to pass inspections.

Q. How many cases will fit in a container?
A. 20’ container average: 800 cases or 10 pallets. 40’ container average: 1200 cases or 20 pallets. Each shipment is unique and depends on the product weight, size and whether it is palletized or floor loaded. Averages are based on common 750ml bottles in 12 pack cases.

A. 20’ TCC average: 504 cases. 40’ TCC average: 1064 cases (each configured at 56 cases/pallet).

Q. What is the maximum weight allowed per shipment?
A. 20’ container average: 34,000 lbs or 15,500 kgs. 40’ container average: 44,000 lbs or 20,000 kgs.

Q. Will I be able to track my shipment?
A. Yes, you’ll have 24/7/365 access to our logistics management tracking system to monitor each shipment as it progresses.

Q. From what point does my insurance start?
A. Insurance begins at the point you take ownership of your cargo.

Q. Should I pay for my premium before my container ships?
A. No, your coverage is automatic once you indicate your intent to cover your shipments. You need to declare the value of all shipments on a monthly basis and pay when you receive your invoice.

Q. Can I consolidate a container with an importer who is not insured by WSSA?
A. Yes. However, if you file a claim we will only investigate and/or pay for damages for products you own.
