APM Terminals Experiencing Congestion

Posted 01/17/2019

APM Terminals Elizabeth is experiencing some congestion and backlog due to larger than average volumes and shortened work weeks from the Christmas and New Year holidays. The Port of NY/NJ facility has promised that conditions will get better soon as additional labor and equipment upgrades have been recently implemented. Even so, truckers and shippers are feeling the frustration of the slow progress and long turn times. The managing director of APM Terminals Elizabeth LLC told the JOC, "certainly since the uptick in volume we have experienced in the last quarter we have seen a deterioration on our truck turn times." Adding also, "We understand the frustration of our landside customers." The facility is working hard to improve conditions and has even asked some carriers to divert vessels to another terminal to allow for some catchup time.
