Canada ILWU Update

Posted 07/31/2023

Over the weekend Canada's ILWU voted down the tentative labor agreement - a deal that has already taken hours of deliberation and bargaining between the Union and BCMEA.

This comes after the ILWU's initial strike action, leaving a backlog that will take approximately eight weeks to clear, experts say.

The ILWU has not communicated their next steps since the rejection of the agreement, but they still have the ability to announced another strike, provided they give 72-hour notice beforehand.

As this issue drags on, members of Canada's supply chain networks are pushing for an agreement, so that stability can return to cargo flows throughout the country.
