Mexico Tariffs Looming?

Posted 06/07/2019

There is no word yet on the outcome of the trade talks but there is a lot of noise on Capitol Hill around the tariff issue.  American Shipper published an article today quoting House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal, D-Mass stating "Commandeering U.S. trade policy to influence border security is an abuse of power.  If the president does declare a national emergency and attempt to put these tariffs into place, I will introduce a resolution of disapproval to stop his overreach."

Comments have been published by many congressional members and the NCBFAA (National customs brokers and freight forwarders association) suggesting the massive disruption that would be created should the tariffs be implemented.

Our sources on Capitol Hill advise that they do not expect the tariffs to be imposed on June 10 and expect a reprieve for at least one month, but we will have more to report as the situation develops.  We will keep you all posted as we receive any information.
