NZ Earthquake Restoration Update

Posted 12/05/2016

Our New Zealand office sent us the latest update on port and transport conditions after last month's earthquake. Please see below:

  • CentrePort Wellington remains closed for receiving container vessels, and there is no indication that they will become operational for such in the near future. Daily correspondence with the steamship lines and ports is taking place, but the situation is still very much uncertain in all respects. The shipping lines have indicated that they are not taking bookings to or from Wellington, so alternative ports must be considered for any Wellington customers.
  • Due to the above, NZ is experiencing rail delays in the North Island between Wellington and Napier. Napier and Nelson port volumes have increased as Wellington containers are being redirected to these two ports.

We will continue to keep you updated on the situation.  If you have any shipments that require priority please contact us.
