Tariffs on EU Wine and Spirits?

Posted 09/17/2019

The WTO (World Trade Organization) has ruled on the long pending Airbus case in favor of the USA, opening the door for the US to impose new tariffs on EU products.  It is expected that the allowable amount will be decided by September 30th.  Washington has stated that they expect to impose tariffs on $11 billion in EU exports.

There has been ongoing lobbying to exempt alcoholic beverages from the retaliatory list, and while we do not yet have the final list of items or the tariff amount, it could be up to 100 percent.  There are also ongoing talks to regulate subsidies for the civil-aircraft industry and negotiate solutions to avoid the tariffs.

We are staying on top of this new development and will provide further updates as soon as more data is available. As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
