WTO Airbus Case Update

Posted 07/27/2020

We have been receiving many questions about the news release from the European Commission stating that “the bloc is now in full compliance with rulings in the long-running World Trade Organization dispute with the U.S. over Airbus subsidies” and emails have been pouring in asking if this means that the tariffs will be removed and if no new tariffs will be implemented.
At this point, we expect the situation to remain status quo and the carousel process to play out as planned, with an announcement by the USTR on or around August 12. At this point, a decision will be published on the status of the tariffs but the opinion of many in Washington DC is that this announcement does not end the dispute, nor the collection of money due to the USA under the WTO decision.

We do expect that this announcement could accelerate the negotiations, and our hope is that it will prevent increasing or adding to the current tariffs imposed. We will provide further updates as soon as we have more information. Please feel free to contact us with any questions.
