After failing to reach an agreement on the salary increase between the Chilean government and the public sector, state employees in Chile are conducting a national strike today, November 25th, and tomorrow, November 26th.

Many public services will not be available, which may cause cargo not to be allowed in terminals and potential delays on documentations, inspections, etc.

Please be advised of this situation and take preventive measures as needed. We will keep you updated regarding the status of the strike.

All exporters, importers, freight forwarders and carriers must prepare for the upcoming global regulation requiring every packed container to have a verified container weight prior to loading on a vessel. The international treaty mandated by SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) and published by the World Shipping Council applies to all container shipments wherever loaded and will be effective July 1st, 2016. Overweight containers contributed to the MSC Napoli break up and subsequent beaching off the UK Coast in 2007, along with other vessel accidents.

WSSA will be at stand B38 at the 7th annual World Bulk Wine Exhibition (WBWE) being held in Amsterdam on November 23-24, 2015. The WBWE has grown another 15% this year with wineries from 19 countries including Germany, Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Chile, USA, France, Italy, Portugal, South Africa, and Spain. The fair brings together virtually all of the bulk wine producing and exporting countries. WSSA continues to handle an increasing volume of flexis and isotanks and we look forward to seeing many of our current customers as well as new shippers at the event.
