Good news today from Chile! The Customs strike that began May 20th has come to an end today. Operations at ports and air ports are said to resume gradually and return to normal within the next few days.

The Chilean Customs strike that began May 20th continues to slow port operations in the ports of Valparaiso and San Antonio. Now, May 28th, the strike has yet to reach a conclusion.

At both the Port of Valparaiso and the Port of San Antonio, ethical shifts are being conducted in order to service import and export operations. However, as Customs officials are without their administrative staff, receiving documentation is a slow process.

We will continue to keep you updated on the impact of the strike and will work with our contacts in Chile to mitigate any shipment delays that may occur.

Good news from the West Coast this morning! Yesterday, the US West Coast waterfront employers (PMA) ratified a five-year contract with the International Longshore and Warehouse Union. The contract is set to run through July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2019, the PMA announced Wednesday. The ILWU will vote Friday to determine whether or not the contract is officially approved.

Recently, we received word that a strike has been scheduled by the Chilean Customs employees for next Wednesday, May 20th.

The strike is a protest by Customs workers, as they have rejected the Chilean government proposal to strengthen the national Customs service in order to reduce tax evasion and avoidance of foreign trade.

We will be sure to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as we receive them.
