The second winter storm within a week is expected to hit the Northeast today and bring with it heavy snowfall, especially along the Boston – New York City – Philadelphia I-95 corridor. Commuting is expected to be difficult and even dangerous this evening, with wet heavy snow expected. The storm has also limited operations at some ports and terminals along the East Coast:

The start of 2018 has brought about severe trucking shortages for the transportation industry. With new government regulations, severe winter conditions, an aging population of truck drivers, increased operating costs, and high service demand, the industry is seeing a drastic decline in truck availability.

Unseasonably severe weather has plagued parts of Europe this week causing transportation delays and cancellations in certain regions. In Italy, the Official Authority declared a state of emergency which suspended train departures across the nation until conditions improve.
