EU Tariff Update

Posted on: July 14, 2025

In an unexpected turn of events, President Trump sent one of his tariff threat letters to the EU on Friday evening July 11. The letter threatens to impose a 30% tariff on all EU goods. This came as a surprise after positive reports on the negotiations with the EU were published by various sources last week. The letter is attached here for your reference. The EU responded with a statement describing the move as extremely disruptive and advised that any retaliation will be suspended until early August in order to continue negotiations with the goal to achieve a trade deal.

The USWTA leaders have responded with a letter (attached) promoting the necessity of access to markets for US wineries and of course, these markets are also essential for spirits producers. The Toast Not Tariffs coalition and USWTA will continue to engage with the USTR and Administration with the goal of a fair trade deals for beverage alcohol for all exporters and importers.
