Canada Tariffs:
Reminder—for those of you shipping to Canada from the USA new tariffs are in effect as of today. While beverage alcohol products are not included on the list of products subject to the new tariffs, it is important to be aware of the situation and potential for escalation.
Mexico Tijuana Crossing Disruption:
Mexican trucking leaders are pushing U.S. and Mexican officials to clarify B-1 visa enforcement after a trucker blockade at the Mexicali-Calexico East crossing last Thursday over visa revocations tied to alleged cabotage violations. CANACAR estimates over 25,000 driver visas have been revoked along the northern border, with confusion partly stemming from how officials interpret empty trailers. CANACAR is urging dialogue over further blockades but warns delays are already affecting shipments, including time-sensitive goods, and could worsen if protests spread to crossings like Tijuana’s Otay Mesa.
Separately, CBP will extend weekday hours (7 a.m.-midnight) for empty trailers at Laredo’s Colombia-Solidarity Bridge for 90 days starting September 14, aimed at easing morning congestion. Reduced cross-border trucking capacity or further protests could disrupt freight flow at major U.S.-Mexico gateways.
