We have been receiving many reports of importers experiencing issues with their FDA registration numbers. We have spoken to the FDA to seek the root cause and solutions should error messages or cancellations occur.
The FDA is currently streamlining its records by eliminating duplicate facility registrations. As part of this effort, it is verifying that the company information in Section 2 of the FDA registration exactly matches the corresponding DUNS registration. Any discrepancies, such as “ST” versus “STREET” will result in cancellation of the FDA registration.
To avoid cancellation, update Section 2 of the FDA registration to match the DUNS record exactly. Once submitted, the update will undergo a five-day review. If all information aligns, the registration will be reactivated.
The FDA recommends updating the FDA registration rather than the DUNS record, as FDA updates are processed in real time, while DUNS updates may take 7–15 business days.
A common issue the FDA is seeing for foreign facilities involves mismatches in the state, territory, or province fields. Please ensure your suppliers are aware of this requirement and make necessary updates to prevent disruptions.
