| US and Canada Trade War: Tariffs for USA Products Scheduled for September 8 Canada has announced new tariffs on USA products with an effective date of September 8, 2026. While beverage alcohol products are not on the list of products subject to tariffs, more than 800 other products are targeted with tariffs of 15, 25, and 50 percent, mirroring the products outlined in the US Section 338 and Section 232 tariffs. Only products of US origin under USMCA/CUSMA rules of origin will be subject to these tariffs. The September 8 date gives us hope that there is room to return to the negotiating table and work toward the deal that was under discussion before trade talks broke down. President Trump has announced further tariff measures on Canadian products to take effect January 1, again giving the two countries time to ease tensions in this trade war.
